Career Counselling
Career development is a lifelong process that is influenced by a variety of factors, including your personal values, interests and abilities. Career counselling can help you get to know and understand yourself and the job market so that you can make better decisions about your next steps.
Who is career counselling intended for?
Career counselling can be suitable for everyone - for Masters and Bachelors, for freshmen and graduating students or graduates. FSV UK offers the services of a career counsellor free of charge to all its students and recent graduates.
What can you expect from career counselling?
- A career counsellor is someone you can talk to about your ideas, feelings and concerns about your career and education choices, someone who can help you sort out your thoughts.
- A career counsellor can help you find and navigate sources of information related to education and work.
- A career counsellor can give you feedback on your resume or cover letters.
- A career counsellor can help you determine next steps and create a plan to achieve your goals.
- A career counsellor will not find a job for you or tell you how to make a decision, but will help you figure it out for yourself.
A few examples of questions that bring students to career counselling:
"I'm already in my third year and I have no idea what I want to do."
“I'm considering several options, but I'm having a hard time choosing between them.
"I enjoy the field of study, but I have no idea what I want to do when I graduate."
"I know what kind of work I want to do, but I'm not sure what would be the best follow-up field of study for me."
"I would like to know what kinds of jobs are suitable for graduates in my field."
"I like a lot of different subjects and I keep changing majors because I'm not sure which one is the best for me."
"In a year, I would like to continue studying the chosen field, but now I have a break. How can I make the best out of the free year?"
"I really wanted to study this field but I got in and now I don't enjoy it at all."
"My parents wanted me to study this field, but I'm not sure if it's what I want."

First international Erasmus+ ICM Staff Training Week at FSV UK
The First international Erasmus+ ICM Staff Training Week at FSV UK was held from 13 - 17 June 2022 on-site at Charles University, Faculty of Social Sciences in Prague. The topic for this Staff Week was Crisis Management. The participants arrived from universities in Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Moldova. -
Collecting courses for virtual mobility
Collecting courses for virtual mobility and the new call for POVIM fund for the winter semester 2022/2023 are open. The collection of all VM Courses is done directly in SIS by ticking “Virtual mobility” in the course description not later than on 15 July 2022. -
"The War in Ukraine: 3 Months Later" debate
Asami Teramija, a young reporter accounting for Kyiv Independent and Kyiv Post, will be a guest for the debate addressing situation from Kyiv, Charkiv and Donbas area.The debate will take place in Hollar building in the room No. 215 and it will start at 5 p.m., discussion will be in English. -
Apply for accommodation at Hlávka dormitory
60 places at Hlávka dormitory are reserved for PhD students or young academic or research staff, or students of Master's and Bachelor's study programmes with excellent study, research and pedagogical results from Charles University. The application can be sent until May 4, 2022. -
Water supply failure: Teaching at ISS, IPS and IMS in Pekařská is online today
Due to a failure of the water supply lines in Líšnická Street in Prague 13, in-person education at the Institute of International Studies, Institute of Political Studies and Institute of Sociological studies is carried online today, March 30, 2022. ️ ️The situation tomorrow is still uncertain. Therefore, follow information at the institute level and check your e-mail boxes. -
The new GEOCEP project supports mobilities to selected world's universities
The project Global Excellence in Modeling Climate and Energy Policies (GEOCEP) provides an innovative economic modelling framework supporting the energy transition to a zero-carbon economy. It brings together leading global and regional think tanks and universities. GEOCEP offers up to EUR 2,100 per person per month to support outgoing mobilities for FSV UK PhD students and academics whose research focuses on climate and energy.
