Three New English-Taught Programs Coming to the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University in 2026/27

Prague, November 3, 2025 – The Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University is expanding its international portfolio with the launch of three new English-taught degree programs starting in the academic year 2026/27. The new programs — MA in Transnational History (TNH), MA in Game Studies (GAME), and BA in Sustainability in Marketing and Media Communication (SUMAC) — highlight the faculty’s growing commitment to global education, interdisciplinarity, and innovation.

“Through these new programs we are offering students a chance to join an international academic community in the heart of Europe, studying topics that are both academically rigorous and socially relevant,” says Malvína Krausz Hladká, Vice-Dean for Student Affairs at FSV UK. “We believe that equipping students with the analytical, communicative and intercultural skills needed in today’s world is central to our mission.”

The new programs complement the faculty’s broad English-taught portfolio — currently comprising 21 Master’s and 5 Bachelor’s programs — and respond to key global trends: interconnected histories, the expanding game and interactive media sector, and the growing importance of sustainability in marketing and communication.

Entirely taught in English and based in Prague, these programs offer international students the chance to study at one of Central Europe’s leading universities while engaging with cutting-edge global issues.

Transnational History is launched by the Institute of International Studies FSV UK. Game Studies and Sustainability in Marketing and Media Communication are introduced by the Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism FSV UK.

→ Master in Transnational History (TNH)

This program offers students a chance to explore the forces that have linked and transformed societies from the 19th century to today. In an international environment, students will examine global issues such as globalization, migration, war, or cultural exchange – learning to interpret the past to better understand the present. Graduates will be well positioned for careers in diplomacy, public administration, culture, media, NGOs, and multinational companies, or for further study in doctoral programs.

→ Master in Game Studies (GAME)

This interdisciplinary program focuses on digital and also non-digital games as a medium, and builds on media studies and related fields, such as sociology, anthropology, or film studies. Students will engage with the game history, current trends and practices in the game industry and player communities. The program prepares graduates as experts able to critically analyse games, the industry and communities, and pursue careers as analysts, community managers, game journalists, or specialists in public institutions.

→ Bachelor in Sustainability in Marketing and Media Communication (SUMAC)

This program introduces students to sustainability principles within marketing and media communication contexts. Students will gain knowledge in intercultural communication strategies and sustainability principles in marketing and media communication. Graduates of SUMAC will be ready to work for government agencies, companies, NGOs, media and communications agencies, public and private media outlets in Czechia and abroad.
